Reviews of Leading Government Grants

Some of the leading grants are those in which the requirements can be easily understood and have been designed to help individual businesses innovate, grow and expand. These grants range from financial assistance to help export a product or service to a global market or to develop an innovation for commercialsation. Application requirements may depend on the location of the business; however, with the increase in overall budget allocations, businesses have a realistic opportunity to receive the government funding.

Some of the most recognised government grants are as follows:

Export Market Development Grants

Export Market Development Grants, or EMDG, is a program designed to allocate substantial amounts of money to Australian exporters seeking to deliver products or services to overseas markets. The grant program will reimburse approximately 50% of eligible expenditures incurred up to a maximum of $150,000 per year. The EMDG grants are non-competitive; therefore anyone who meets the requirements can apply for this government grant. The program is ideal for small and medium businesses to realise, and improve, their export potential.  Businesses which increase their net profit as a result of the EMDG may be further eligible for tax dividends, rebates and other incentives.

TCF Grants (Textile Clothing and Footwear)

Small businesses within the Australian textile, clothing and footwear industry (TCF) have a feasible opportunity to receive grants up to $50,000 to improve the entrepreneurial spirit of TCF businesses throughout the country. Up and coming designers and those with an already established brand are encouraged to apply for the government funding. If awarded, the money may be used for a multitude of e-commerce solutions, enterprise management systems, strategic business planning and marketing or new equipment.

Early Stage Commercialisation

Early Stage Commercialisation grants provide companies, entrepreneurs, inventors and researchers with up to $2 million to bring a new product, service or process to the Australian and/or global market.  The funding will help to accelerate the undertaking of the construction of a prototype, working idea or valuable service and develop it into a marketable product. The execution of IP strategy and market validation may also be covered by the financial assistance. Early Stage Commercialisation grants are definitely a vital aspect to the economical expansion efforts of the Australian government that lead to innovative growth and development. It also provides the opportunity for local businesses to achieve critical project objectives in a timely manner.

R&D Tax Incentives

Research and development (R&D) tax incentives provide businesses of all sizes with a tax incentive that helps offset associated expenditures. The program is one which is broad; meaning that accessing the incentive is relatively easy for majority business owners. Through this incentive, the government’s primary objectives are to encourage further research and development in Australia which in turn leads to new possibilities for industries, innovations and creation of more jobs within the Australian economy.

LPG Vehicle Scheme

The LPG Vehicle Scheme has been established to help Australian’s reduce high fuel costs and decrease air pollution resulting from traditional petrol. The scheme will assist private motorists to purchase a new LPG vehicle or alternatively, convert a new or used petrol or diesel vehicle into LPG. The grant also allows car owners to continue running on petrol or diesel, but to install LPG as a secondary fuel option. Business owners may be able to recoup any remaining conversion costs as a capital expense.
